PERFORMANCE ART

Kat Henry is a performance artist and researcher, working with the medium of time. Her research analyses the perception and manipulation of the perception of time within long durational performance and extreme physical endurance. She is undertaking this research as a PhD candidate at Monash University as well as in her own practice as a performance artist. Below are details of some of her durational performance artworks.

TimePod

TimePod is an ambitious durational project that seeks to deeply understand time from an experiential perspective. It is a purpose-built, room-like Pod that acts as a temporal isolation chamber; as far as possible, it eliminates all external indicators of time. From 7pm, October 10th, 2017 to 7pm October 20th, for 240 hours, Kat entered and remained in the Pod, to experience as close as possible to "no-time".

Deliverance

Deliverance is a 240 hour-long durational performance art project in which 3 artists (William McBride, Penny Harpham, and Kat Henry) go to a public, outdoor space in the middle of a city, and enter a 5m x 6m space with nothing - no clothing, no props, no provisions, no shelter - and stay in that space without leaving for 240 hours. During that time they invite the audience - the general population of the city, to interact with the artwork in any way they like, and in so doing, enable their survival.

The piece was first developed at Metro Arts in Brisbane in a 40-hour iteration in 2011, then had two full outings of 240 hours in 2012 - in Adelaide and at the Platoon Kunsthalle in Berlin.

Jesus! Live! Here! tonight!

Jesus! Live! Here! tonight! #1 (Spinning) is the first in a trilogy of short durational works. In Spinning an ensemble of performers spin on the spot for the duration of 60, to a beautiful and specifically-composed piece of music (composed by Brett Harris).

#2 (Standing) and #3 (Dancing) will be performed over the 2017-2018 summer in Melbourne.
